A Slice of Fried Gold

The return of Battlestar Galactica

Thursday, April 3, 2008

For those that know me, you know I have my obsessions. For those that don't, consider yourself on notice. To name a few, there's comics, tuna melts, blogging, all forms of music but especially Eleanor Rigby. You know, the usual stuff.

However there is really one thing that trumps the rest (well, truth be told if I was blogging about comics while eating a tuna melt and listening to Eleanor Rigby, that may surpass the forthcoming obsession) and that is Battlestar Galactica. Dorky or not, I pretty much think this show is the bee's knees. The cat's pajamas. You know, all that is man.

The point is, I like it a lot. It's also been off the air for a long time (see, you can tell it's been a long time because the long was italicized). How long? Over a year! Sci Fi kills me. So after leaving us with one of the single biggest cliffhangers ever, the show is starting back up tomorrow night with the fourth and final season premiere named "He That Believeth in Me."

Needless to say, I'm excited.

Now Battlestar is not at all like the average show, or really any sci-fi show ever made. It really transcends the perceived limitations of the genre by basing the obviously fantastic situations in gritty realism and an intense study of the human condition and those things that affect it. I mean come on, who would have thought that a show about the human race trying to escape a savage force of cyborg people would give us the single best representation of the Iraq War within the television medium? That's exactly what it did in the first four episodes of season 3. It also is based heavily upon religion, relationships, self awareness, and many other bigger questions in life.

All that, and there are some pretty rad fights between spaceships!

I can say unequivocally that this is my favorite TV show ever. Well, truth be told, it's my favorite form of entertainment ever. I've watched the whole series a disgusting amount of times, I've shared it with many people who have also fallen in love with it, and I really cannot wait for tomorrow. I know a lot of people question it because it's sci-fi and it is in fact called Battlestar Galactica (which is really, really hard to take seriously unless you watch it, because frankly it sounds ridiculous), but seriously folks, give it a shot. Don't watch it tomorrow, but find someone you know that has the DVD's and watch the series. Rent it through Netflix. Go to Hulu.com for fraks sake (that's a little Bstar lingo for ya) and watch it for free! After you've completed the first three seasons, begin watching season four (which I'll assume you've recorded with your DVR/VCR or have downloaded). Enjoy.

You'll thank me later.

We are watching Bstar right now and it is super great! And I just wanted to take credit for introducing you to your tuna melt obsession, remember I made you your first one and a week later you told me you had eaten one everyday since. Ah, I just had one two days ago and it was delish!
