A Slice of Fried Gold

Vampire Weekend - California English, Pt. 2

Friday, December 4, 2009

Man...after the weirdness that was "Horchata," Vampire Weekend has managed to release consecutive stunners. First we had "Cousins" appearing much to the delight of hipsters across the world (and much to the chagrin of the WebSheriff), and now we have the release of the B-Side to that very single. This track is titled "California English, Pt. 2" and it is everything that Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij's side project Discovery should have sounded like. It's an exceptional track that sounds a lot more electro pop influenced than the standard (and fantastic) indie afro-pop sound we're used to from VW.

No less, I'm excited to hear "California English, Pt. 1" and the rest of their new album Contra January 12th of 2010 (or whenever it leaks). Definitely an early contender for my next new favorite album.

Thanks to Pretty Much Amazing for posting this track. Much appreciated. They're a great music blog and deserve some love.
